CJ Hardtop on a YJ

The CJ-7 fiberglass hard top fits nicely on a YJ body. There
are two main areas that are different. The YJ has rollbars
that extend to the windshiled that will interfer with the
fit. The CJ has a swing away spare tire, the YJ's is
attached to the tail gate. This interferes with the lift
gate operation.

1. Remove the roll bars that attach to the windshield. The
Flanges in the ends of the bars interfere with the top
setting over the winshield edge. An Alternate option is
to grind away some of the fiberglass to make clearance
   for the roll bar flanges.

2. Great trick here. Remove your spare tire bracket and
reinstall it upside down. This lowers the height of your
spare and allows for much more tailgate/liftgate Tee
handle clearence. You will have to drill one hole in the
bracket to reattach it properly. The bracket has three
holes across the top and only two on the bottom. Note:
This mod may then interfere with after market bumpers or
   hitches.

After this the spare tire rides about 4 inches lower. You
still have to open and close the liftgate and tailgate
together, but it's real easy after this mod.
