Whipsaw Trail Recognized As One of Six "Outstanding Trails in North America"
May 22, 2007
BFGoodrich Tires has added the Whipsaw Trail to its Oustanding Trails program. The trail's uniqueness, terrain type and user enthusiasm were cited as reasons for its addition. A group from BFG will visit the trail later this year, and will liase with the Rover-Landers of BC 4x4 club. Under the umbrella of the 4WDABC, the Rover-Landers have entered into an agreement with the province to maintain the Lodestone Lake recreation site. The club also makes regular runs on the trail to erect and maintain signage, clean up garbage, and promote Tread Lightly practices.
They have sent us a press release regarding their activities on the Whipsaw and information about BF Goodrich and their upcoming visit:
BF Goodrich has selected the Whipsaw Trail west of Princeton as one of 6 outstanding trails in North America, (see press release: http://www.ufwda.org/news_view.php?id=70) and selected the Rover-Landers of BC as the host club they will liaise with on their visit to the trail later this year.
The Rover-Landers of BC have been active around BC for a number of years in trail cleanup and preservation, and in 2006, within the umbrella of the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC, entered into an agreement with the BC Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Arts to maintain the Lodestone Lake recreation site along the Whipsaw Trail. The Rover-Landers travel the trail 3-5 times annually, cleaning up garbage along the trail, at the Lodestone Lake recreation site, erecting signs and encouraging Tread Lightly to other users of the trail. Members of the public, other off-road clubs and the 4WDABC are welcome on these maintenance runs, and the runs have been used to sharpen the skills of many a new off-roader.
There have been a number of questions regarding whether there will be any special activities surrounding BFGoodrich's choice of this trail for it's outstanding trail program. While little detail is available at this time, it was thought prudent to have a spokesperson to respond to questions from those interested in the trail.
If there are questions regarding current cleanup activities and upcoming runs, please contact Shawn Doherty (shawndohertyATshawDOTca), Coordinator for Lodestone Lake cleanups for both the Rover-Landers of BC and the 4WDABC.
Any questions regarding the BFG Outstanding Trail program and its activities on the Whipsaw should be directed to Paul Cooper (PaulJCooperATshawDOTca), Whipsaw Communications Liaison for the Rover-Landers of BC.
