Jeep JT Concept Vehicle - The Scrambler Re-Born
Jul 27, 2007
Somehow, the Jeep JT concept vehicle completely bypassed the crack investigation team here at the BC4x4 News Department. In April of this year the Chrysler Skunkwerks debuted their all new Jeep JT at the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. It proved to be a big hit with those that saw it being put through its paces on the Utah slickrock. We have to admit that the JT is a big hit with us as well. A large part of this might be due to our cult-like love of the 80's Jeep Scrambler. Definitely not as practical as a regular JK but we can't help fantasizing ten years down the road and visualizing a JT riding on one-ton running gear and 40" tires.
We're dreaming of a JT built like this Scrambler.
Skunkwerks built the JT on the current JK Unlimited 116" wheelbase with a 5' box and very minimal amount of rear overhang for a great departure angle. The cab is configured with an easy to remove hard top. Suspension duties are handled by a 3" Superlift suspension system which allows fitment of 35" BFG Mud Terrain tires.
All in all we really like the look of the JT and the historical tie-in to the Scrambler. There currently is no word as to whether the JT will ever be more than a concept vehicle. But if Jeep decides to proceed, they will be reviving the mini truck market (which was huge in the 80's) with the only solid front axle truck in its class. We think there is a market for this truck, so get on it Chrysler!
