Eagle Ridge Gate
May 25, 2002
As most of you are probably aware of by now, a gate is in the process of
being installed to block access to Eagle Ridge. The posts are in, the
concrete is dry, and the gate will most likely be in place and locked by
the end of Monday.
I have been contacted by a representative of the City of Coquitlam who
are installing the gate. The Fire Chief has ordered the area closed because
of the risks of forest fires from the many vehicles that have been torched
up there recently. So forget all your ideas about the residents of the area having the area
shut down, its purely a safety measure from a fire protection standpoint.
While the Eagle Ridge area is crown land, access to it is through the
City of Coquitlam, and they have to pay the MInistry of Forests to
extinguish the vehicle fires as the City cant access that area.
So now that I've outlined the bad news and reasons for it, here is some
good news! A key program for gate access is in the planning process, with
details to be hammered out as soon as possible. But until that program is
in place, it looks like the gate will remained locked until then.
I will inform you all of more details as this unfolds.
