Installing Late Model Rollbar in Early Model YJ
A roll bar from a 92+ YJ WILL DIRECTLY fit an early model
(87-91) YJ. I ordered mine from Jeep (couldn't find a used
one anywhere) for $230 (includes 8.75% tax).
Here are my encounters:
1) Must have an impact wrench or breaker bar to get Torx 40
and 45 bolts loosened. I used a breaker bar to break loose
and then a air socket to loosen. Must have "quality" Torx
sockets. I bought cheapies and they are now trashed.
Craftsman got my business again.
2) The cage I got from Jeep had the arm behind the drivers
seat "tweeked" by about 6 degrees. They agreed to use a
power "spreader" to move it into place (on their nickel not
mine). Otherwise it would have dropped right in.
3) All bolt holes line up except for 2 (1 on each leg) that
attached to the floor (inner most bolt). I intend to
"modify" the hole in the plate such that it will line up.
However, since every other bolt (total of 12) lined up, I
didn't feel it a safety issue or major concern.
